The was established July 30, 1897, and was the first newspaper published in Arlington. The was established October 4, 1934. In 1957, these two publications merged to create the , which became the largest paid newspaper in Arlington. The was later purchased by the publishers of the but continued to publish a weekly edition under its existing name. Star-Telegram Operating Ltd. took over the publication on July 4, 1996, and changed its name to the . The collection is comprised of black and white photographs, 8x10" and smaller, from the , including some negatives and one color print. The photographs range in date from 1865 to 1968, and contain prints of buildings, events, landmarks, people, schools and street scenes in the Arlington area. The most notable photographs include images of Arlington Downs; Arlington State College/University of Texas at Arlington including the 1957 Junior Rose Bowl game; General Motors plant; Mineral Well; schools; and local businesses.
